Atuh Beach Nusa Penida – Relaxing Spot In Bali

by David & Intan

Atuh Beach is one of the coolest beaches on the south end of Nusa Penida island. Unlike Suwehan Beach, this one is not a secret and there are sunbeds, beanbags, and a handful of nice food & drink shacks here.

If youโ€™re trying to decide between Atuh Beach vs Diamond Beach, I think the latter probably trumps this one as the most Instagrammable beach in south Penida, but theyโ€™re both amazing and you can easily visit both in the same day trip!

This travel guide will explain how to get to Atuh Beach Nusa Penida, and everything you need to know before you go!

Where To Stay In Nusa Penida

Atuh Beach Nusa Penida: What To Expect

The highlight of Atuh Beach is the big elephant shaped rock in the ocean (locals say it looks like a stiletto), and thereโ€™s a nice variety of sea life that gets trapped in the rocks at low tide.

Behind the beach sits a valley with a sea of palm trees and green hills that also makes for some great photo ops, especially if you have a drone.

Even though the beach is lined with small food and drink shacks, at the moment itโ€™s still fairly natural and there isnโ€™t any Atuh Beach accommodation (although I believe a hotel is in the works).

Overall, Atuh Beach is a really cool place to look around and chill for a couple of hours, and you can easily reach it from the other must see attractions on the southeastern part of the island: Diamond Beach and the Rumah Pohon treehouse.

Atuh Beach vs Diamond Beach

So which is better, in a matchup of Atuh Beach vs Diamond Beach?

Personally, I think Diamond Beach is more spectacular and photogenic, with its giant pointy rocks and panoramic views.

However, Atuh Beach also has nice, white sand with sunbeds, beanbags, and drink stalls, so I think itโ€™s a better beach for chilling.

Both of these beaches are fantastic, so I would highly recommend visiting them both โ€” probably Diamond first, and then relax at Atuh to wrap up the day.

The good news is these two beaches are located right by each other and use the same parking lot, so unless youโ€™re just very pressed on time, you wonโ€™t have to choose between Atuh Beach vs Diamond Beach anyway!

Entrance Fees

FREE as of 2020. Thereโ€™s no entrance fee at Atuh Beach.

How To Get To Atuh Beach Nusa Penida

Atuh Beach is located on the southeast side of Nusa Penida island, near Bali.

If you drive from the main docks and accommodation in northern Penida, itโ€™s accessible by car or scooter in about 1 hour.

Be careful if you go by scooter because the road is rough and may be dangerous in some spots if you donโ€™t take it slow!

From the parking lot for Atuh Beach, itโ€™s a short walk and then a short (but strenuous) hike down to the beach.

Atuh Beach has parking areas on both sides of the beach, but Iโ€™d recommend using the one at Diamond Beach (shown in the map below) and then you can just walk over to Atuh from there.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at Saren Villa on the north coast of Nusa Penida, and paid 240k Rupiah ($15 USD) for a private double room with cold A/C, hot shower, and good WiFi.

This is one of the cheapest options in Penida, and it's in a great location near the best restaurants! We were happy.

Prices may fluctuate from time to time, so just keep an eye out for a good deal.
